Seeking Summer in Cornwall's Wild Beauty

Seeking Summer in Cornwall's Wild Beauty

The sunshine may be evasive at times but one thing that is plentiful in Cornwall is beautiful beaches. We love nothing more than lying on the beach in the glorious sunshine and swimming in the sea to cool off. Who needs to go abroad when there is so much beauty on our doorstep? And then, we remember that August is one of the rainiest months, and sometimes it feels like autumn has arrived early to say hello. On days like these the best thing you can do is embrace the weather and get off the beaten track for some exploring. Everything is green and beautiful and the air is warm (well, compared to the winter!)

It's the simple things in life, as they say...so that means the free things right? Escaping the crowds and finding your own piece of heaven. Walking the coast paths at the far west of Cornwall you can discover some beautiful coves. One of our favourites is Nanjizal which is hidden away on the coastal walk from Lands End to Porthgwarra. With no direct road access, Nanjizal can only be reached on foot, which means meandering along coast paths which pass through hardcore Poldark territory - rugged Cornwall at its best.

And when you get there, there's a stunning beach, pools and rocks to explore.

If rugged is your thing then there is nowhere better than Portheras Cove. Located on one of the wildest stretches of Cornish coastline in-between Morvah and Pendeen, this beautiful sandy cove is nestled amongst sheer granite cliffs at the bottom of a valley.

A walk from Portheras to Pendeen Lighthouse is a wholesome way to experience some of Cornwall's best off-the-beaten-track exploring. You can really immerse yourself into real Cornwall and feel echoes of a bygone era. Form here the South West Coast Path is your oyster, and you can follow its rugged tracks northeast towards Zennor and St.Ives or southwest towards St Just and Sennen.

Heading south west towards Sennen you can discover beautiful, sub-tropical Cot Valley. An unspoilt and lush valley on the outskirts of St Just, Cot is a walkers paradise and home to the secluded beach of Porth Nanven. Framing the beach are dramatic dinosaur-egg shaped boulders which are a photographers dream and ideal for children to hop across and let their imaginations run wild. Porth Nanven faces west so it is a perfect spot, if the clouds break, for watching the sunset and truly getting away from it all.

Seeking summer in Cornwall is all about getting out and enjoying the season that brings us light evenings and mild weather. Embracing our beautiful coastline and off-the-beaten track beaches is good for the soul.
